Last weekend the Australian Karate Federation (AKF) held the National Championships in sunny Caloundra in Queensland. 7 of our Gold Coast dojo students were selected to represent Queensland at the national competition and have been training with the Queensland (QKA) team over the last few months in preparation for the event.
Congratulations to the following students on their medal results during the competition.
Kent Oiwa – Bronze: Male Children 10-11 Yrs Kata
Kent Oiwa – Bronze: Male Children U12 +45kg Kumite
David Hutchison – Bronze: Male Veterans +45yrs Kata
Junko Oiwa – Silver: Female Veterans Kata
Oscar Gardiner – Gold: Male Children U10 Kata
All of students did exceptionally well over the 3 day event, and most importantly were exposed to the high level of competition at this great event. Plenty of notes and video footage has been brought home and will be applied in their training over the coming months in preparation for next year and beyond. And for first time competitors there is nothing more important than the valuable experienced earned from being apart of the competition.
Congratulations also to Sensei Michael on his successful upgrade to National Judge A for Kata competition.
