We had a small team from the Gold Coast dojo enter the Australian Karate Federation’s (AKF) National Schools Championship and Australian Open Championship on the weekend before Easter.

Our Developing National Squad consisting of Kent and Oscar competed in both the Schools Championship and Australian Open Championship against children of similar ages from across Australia, New Zealand and from the wider Oceania Region. The weekend also hosted a small Oceania Championship for Senior Competitors only for those looking to seek Olympic Selection for next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Both boys did exceptionally well in some great competition and have come home focused on improving for the AKF National Championships in August this year. Additionally the got to see some great elite athletes competing in the Oceania Championship and have given them idea of what is required to compete for Australia both here and overseas.

Congratulations also goes to Sensei Chris and Sensei Michael who both upgraded the Refereeing Qualifications to National Kumite Judge B, the first step on the National Level. This adds to Sensei Michael’s current National Judge A Qualification for Kata Competition.
